I was a graphic designer. I've done art for classes; I did art for a living; I do art in my spare time.

Newer Art Portfolio
I worked as a graphic designer at Signs First for over 4 years. When I left, I was not allowed to take anything with me, as it is theirs. Still, I see things around town that I've done all the time and decided to take some pictures for a portfolio. I threw in a little recent freelance stuff, too, and here is a more graphic design and sign-related portfolio.

Older Art Portfolio
Lots of pretty pictures all in one place. Some are from classes, others my own crazy ideas.

A New Spin on My Name
This is my name, "James Ryan Opp," stylized in such a way that if you rotate it 180 degrees, it is the same thing. I've learned that's called an ambigram.
-
Thud Ambigram
Here is another ambigram based on a favorite game of mine, Thud, where first you play as a dwarf, then a troll. Who knew one drawing could look like both things? This is a picture with 180° rotational symmetry: dwarf on left with a beard, helmet, hand in fist, axe hanging at side, baggy pants; then the word Thud; then a troll holding a club with loincloth and skull belt buckle (in case my art was too hard to figure out).

Scarecrow Icecream T-Shirt
A fun t-shirt I made. If you don't get it, we can't be friends. I later made a newer version.

Cruz the Crab Stereogram
You will find Cruz rendered in the Older Art Portfolio pdf. Here he is in a jumbo stereogram, perfect for hanging on your wall.

Aardvarks in Space Commercial
This is a Lightwave 3D animation with some space combat, the final for a 3D class at Aims. Aparently it ran a time or two on the local TV station, but I never saw it.
-
The Clever Knight
This is a 3D Studio Max animation for a class at Westwood College in which a knight cleverly defeats a dragon. The stress was on the animation, not the model quality, so the characters are just basic shapes.

The Happy Birthday Fairy E-Card
If you don't know the story behind this one, ask me about it sometime, but for legal reasons, I won't post it here.
-
Play Nice
This is an old animation for a hand-drawn animation class I took. We did it in the classic style with storyboards, key frames, tweeners, the works, all under a super time crunch. I ended up doing the vast majority of it as people dropped the class.

Lady Jessica on Caladan with Gom Jabbar
This image is nostalgic. My first time using the pen tool or a vector program. Way too many anchor points; I was so young and reckless. Oh yeah, it's a Dune reference, by the way.

T-Rex Walk Cycle
He's just so darn cute! I could watch him for hours.
